The 2015 Chrysler 200 is expected to look completely different than the current 2013 model (pictured).

A design revolution is on its way to Chrysler Canada, and the 2015 Chrysler 200 looks to be the first vehicle to hit the production line. Due to be constructed at Chrysler’s Sterling Heights assembly plant in Michigan, the new 200 is promised to be a much different car indeed, expected to compete with the strength of high-end sedans such as Mercedes, but continuing to hold true to its distinctive roots.

The Inside Scoop

Early 2014 marks the speculated production time frame for the redesigned 2015 Chrysler 200. Rumored to share its new underpinnings with the Dodge Dart and Jeep Cherokee, both of  which sit on what is called the CUSW platform originally developed by Chrysler’s parent company Fiat S.p.A., the new 200 looks to step up the competition in the midsize sedan class.

Speculations are also brewing about what will arrive on board the new 200. Industry experts expect the next-gen ride to feature the new Jeep Cherokee’s 9-speed automatic transmission as an option, and many believe that the Dodge Dart’s 2.4-litre engine or a new 3.2-litre V6 based engine will arrive as options.

Production is Confirmed

Regardless of what rumors are flying about the specs of the 2015 Chrysler 200, the automaker has confirmed that it will arrive early next year, and backed that promise with action as production of the 2014 Chrysler 200 will end in December to allow Chrysler to prepare the Canadian plant for the production of the next-gen 200. The Sterling Heights plant has received a new 425,000-square foot paint shop and $165 million has been spent adding to the $1-million square-foot body shop.

The Sterling Heights plant was due to be closed by the end of 2010, but has now been spared as Chrysler is committed to the facility and will host the production of the upgraded Chrysler 200 as well as the production of another new midsize sedan that will be meant to replace the Dodge Avenger, although there is no mention yet of whether this new sedan will feature the Avenger badge in any fashion.
