On August 25, Chrysler released new exciting figures about its upcoming heavy-duty lineup. This coincides with the first day of production for the new heavy duty Ram pickups, the 2015 Ram 2500 and the 2015 Ram 3500. From what they say, it looks like several of these numbers will need to be considered best-in-class. We’re looking forward to offering these models at Crestview Chrysler in Regina, SK — keep reading to learn why!

Best-in-Class Figures

Chrysler says the 2015 Ram 3500 is set to increase its torque by 15, bringing it to 865 lb-ft. With the payload to reach a maximum of 3,352 kg and the towing capacity to max at an unbelievable 13,607 kg, best-in-class is an understatement.

According to Chrysler, it has already reached best-in-class efficiency with its Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, which does in fact achieve a phenomenal 7.1 L/100 km on the highway.

Bob Hegbloom, the chief of the Ram brand, sums it up like this: “Ram maintains leadership throughout its pickup line by offering best-in-class fuel economy with our Ram 1500 EcoDiesel,” citing “best-in-class towing at 30,000 pounds, best-in-class power at 865 pound feet, and best-in-class payload at 7,390 pounds with our Ram 3500.” Since torque, payload, and towing capacity are of premium importance to heavy-duty truck owners, these are some mouth-watering claims. The new Ram models will feature a choice between a 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel, a 6.4L Hemi V8 gas engine, and a 5.7L Hemi V8, and all three ought to produce the torque, payload, and towing figures that Regina truck drivers salivate over.

The Current Gen

The current 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel’s V6 engine delivers 7.1 L/100 km on the highway and a driving range of 1,300 km/tank. Both of these are best-in-class ratings. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel once again delivers a best-in-class torque rating of 420 lb-ft, leading to its impressive towing capacity of 4,740 kg.

The 2014 Ram 1500’s gas engines are quite efficient, too, with the standard 3.6L Pentastar V6 delivering an exceptional 7.8 L/100 km on the highway. The huge and powerful 5.7L HEMI V8 delivers the most torque and power, but still retains an admirable efficiency rating of 9.2 L/100km on the highway.
